Legal Credit Repair
Legal credit repair should refer to a company or service that only follows the rules and regulations set forth by the Credit Repair Organization Act or CROA. The CROA has laid out specific laws pertaining to what a credit repair company can do to help you fix your credit problems. Many companies will advertise that they abide by the CROA rules but that is not necessarily true. A legal credit repair company will begin by supplying you with a contract before they say or do anything else. By law, you have three days to cancel that contract if you wish to. The key to finding a good and law abiding credit repair service is to never be desperate in your search. Desperation will lead you to choose a company for the wrong reasons.
There are many ways you can go about discovering if a company is legitimate. The internet is a great place to begin your research of the different companies. Search for consumer reviews and testimonials about the specific company or service you are interested in signing up for. It is also a good idea to check the Federal Trade Commission or FTC website for more information about the company or service you choose. The FTC governs the credit industry so they will have good and bad information about the different companies that are out there. Choose wisely because if something sounds too good to be true, many times it is and you end up not getting the help you really need.
